Design Statement
The lighting design for this production follows the young character's emotional path as they grow and evolve in a world controlled by adult gatekeepers who hope to mold them into versions of themselves. Wile the children attempt find their own paths, we see explosions of saturated color, texture and aerial effects as the musical numbers take on a modern day concert quality, mimicking the rebellious young energy being exposed in the story. The book scenes, in contrast, take on a less saturated and more natural tone in juxtapose the every day events with the internal emotional turmoil of the young characters.
